Just when you believed that justice was swift enough to catch a self-appointed neighborhood watch captain, it falls flat on its face, again. After “manipulating the system to his benefit”, by lying in court about the amount of money that he and his wife had access to, George Zimmerman posted bond and was released in Sanford, Florida on Friday, July 6 after having raised $155,000 through his website: The Real George Zimmerman.com.
According to The Westside Gazette, a South Florida newspaper, “Zimmerman’s bond was initially set at $150,000.However,Zimmerman’s wife, Shellie, lied about her and George’s finances during the first bond hearing, as well as the additional funds being raised on George’s website, inferring that they wouldn’t have enough money to afford bail. Thus, she was charged with perjury on June 1. Moreover, When questioned whether or not she or George had enough money to post bond she replied, “Umm—not that I’m aware of.”
Angered, Judge Kenneth R. Lester raised the bond to $ 1 Million. “By any definition, the defendant has flouted the system,” wrote Judge Lester in a nine page report. “It appears that the defendant is manipulating the system to his own benefit.” This required Zimmerman to pay 10 percent payment ofthe bond, or $100,000. Since, Zimmerman had previously paid $15,000 to be released from jail in April; this left him with the grand total of $85,000 to be paid in full on July 6.
Zimmerman’s lawyer, Mark O’Mara, spoke up for his client at the second bail hearing in reference to his wife Shellie being charged with perjury. “He should have jumped up and said she’s lying [about the money], says O’Mara. “He should have done something, and he didn’t.”On his law group’s website, O’Mara’s bio sits under a quote that says “Helping good people through difficult times.” Apparently, he’s well trusted in Central Florida with 28 years of practicing criminal and family law under his belt. O’Mara forgot to add that he was a good PR rep who is able to mask the true identity of his clients.
It is by no mistake that, “the real George Zimmerman” who visitors see on The Real George Zimmerman site, is docile, thankful, and passive. In a personal video plastered on the main page, Zimmerman says, “Thank you to my supporters. It is my intention to thank you personally and individually. Thank you, all. This is our website; not my website. I hope this webpage can provide the facts.” This can’t be the guy who hunted down an innocent 17-year old, wrestled him to ground, and fatally shot him in the chest in cold blood. Could it?
In an effort to gain more funding after the second bail hearing, CBS news reports that Zimmerman’s lawyer, O’Mara, wrote a statement to the public saying, “For those who feel that this case is an affront to their constitutional rights- now is the time to show support.”
The public did support that. Within 24 hours, Zimmerman’s defense account received a total of $20,000
In upper right hand corner of the Zimmerman’ssite stands a red link that leads supporters to the “GZ DEFENSE FUND” which is dedicated to his legal costs, and living expenses. There, the public can deposit any amount of money they desire directly to his pay pal account.
In addition to his personal website, the man who killed the “suspicious thug,”Trayvon Martin, has a league of supporters in various hubs on the internet such asThe Conservative Tree House and Chimpout.com. Open discussion threads are created on these sites daily to give anti-Martin thinkers a comfy spot where they can type racial epithets such as, “He [Trayvon] was just another n*gger thug, and now, it’s just one less sh*tskin.”
On the other side of the gavel, after hearing the news that Zimmerman did post bail, Trayvon Martin’s mother, Sybrina Fulton, stated that, “Just to know that the killer of my son may walk free someday—it really hurts.”
Let’s hope that justice strikes true the third time around.
